28 FEB 03
Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November;
All the rest have thirty-one
Excepting February alone:
Which hath but twenty-eight, in fine,
Till leap year gives it twenty-nine.
I just count my knuckles.
Where there’s a Evil Ray, there’s an evil way.
Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November;
All the rest have thirty-one
Excepting February alone:
Which hath but twenty-eight, in fine,
Till leap year gives it twenty-nine.
I just count my knuckles.
Using InterTran and some imaginative rewording, I’ve translated all of the “Ray Says” (so far) into very bad Latin.
"I like my women the way I like my music. Fast and loud." | "EGO amo meus mulier amicitia via EGO amo meus carmen. Velox quod procul a valde volubilis." |
"If it rhymes, then it’s not good advice." | "Si is poema poematis , tunc is est non bonus consultum." |
"I’m not certain how Nathaniel Hawthorne died, but I like to think that he fell into a river (a symbol of the inexorable passage of time and thus mortality) and was eaten by an allegory." | "EGO sum non certain quam Nathaniel Hawthorne cesso, tamen EGO amo reor ut is socius in flumen (typicus de certus obduco of vicis quod sic letalis ) quod eram voro per an refer." |
"You’re attempting to appeal to my better nature. Let me explain the flaw in this…" | "Vos es rudimentum interpellatio ut meus melior vis. Permissum mihi persolvo macula huic…" |
"I said ‘No’, not ‘Tell me more about it’." | "EGO orator ‘Haud’, non ‘Dico mihi magis super is’." |
"The carrot is a stick in disguise." | "Palpo est a virga in dissimulo." |
"I shall forever resist the tyranny of the cheerful." | "EGO vadum usquequaque reluctor dominatus per hilaris." |
(Paro iocus sanus hic.)
Today is Johnny Cash’s 71st birthday. If you haven’t checked out his latest album, The Man Comes Around (which was reviewed by my Loquacious Sister), you’re missing a real treat. The title track and Johnny’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ Hurt are worth the price of the entire disk, and the rest of the disk is very good.
Johnny Cash is an American music treasure. He’s been playing Country music with Folk sensibility and Rock and Roll attitude since the middle 1950s. He was the first artist admitted to both the Country and Rock Halls of Fame. The only other person to match this feat is Elvis Presley, but The Man In Black beat E to it.
Happy birthday, John R. Cash.
To commemorate Mr. Cash’s birthday I’m going to dress entirely in black. It was either that or shoot a man in Reno.
Things Ray Says #07:
"I shall forever resist the tyranny of the cheerful."
(Insert rimshot here.)
"Authority has every reason to fear the skeptic, for authority can rarely survive in the face of doubt."
Robert Linder
