In which I attempt to conserve my brain

Ebook update. The Aerians – This is an omnibus volume of The Angel of the Revolution: a Tale of the Coming Terror and its sequel Olga Romanoff, the Syren of the Skies. The Aerians is the story of a successful Griffithian revolution, the attempt to overthrow it 125 years later by Russians with a genetic grudge, and the near destruction of the Earth by a well-timed comet. To fully describe the plot would make my brain melt so that’ll have to do.

“Among the nations of Anglo-Saxondom the change had manifested itself by a swift decadence into the worst forms of unbridled democracy.”

The word voted most useful is "nom".

Bonne Année, y’all. Welcome back.

Over the hols the swell folks at Do Some Damage had a holiday noir flash fiction challenge and were kind enough to post my entry, Bravely Green. Please give it a read and check the other great holiday noir stories.

The American Dialect Society is meeting in Pittsburgh this weekend and will choose its Word(s) of the Year. If the W(s)otY are announced early enough they’ll be posted here next Monday. Otherwise there’ll be something lame…a list or some junk…

Remember 2010 (Gregorian)? We were such dorks back then.

In which I am thankful

My thanks to everyone who supported and contributed to the MSF fund drive.

Fiona Johnson – Miss Fiona is a teacher in Scotland, where it is often blowing a hoolie. Damned hoolies. The wee lassie writes and reviews books.

Breck Sullivan-Carpenter – Miss Breck was one of my first internet friends and is my favorite witch. You wouldn’t know it to look at her, but all her kids are in college, and are brilliant.

Elizabeth White – Miss Beth is an awesomely all-purpose monkey. She muses, writes, and reviews.

Stephanie Craig – Miss Stephanie didn’t even know me and contributed. Canadians…it’s like they’re from another country or something. She designs jewelry and owns Lucky Fish Jewelry.

Hilary Davidson – Miss Hilary is half-Canadian yet has a full share of their dark power. She’s the author of The Damage Done which you should buy now and avoid her fearsome wrath. My copy is signed by Miss Hilary herself. She wrote, “Evil Ray, Step away from the table and keep your paws where I can see them. My hands are licensed by the CSIS/SCRS as lethal weapons and I won’t hesitate to use them. Warm regards, Miss Hilary.

Steve Weddle– Mister Steve defected from North Louisiana and is a newspaperman in East Virginia. Remember newspapers? We were such dorks back then. He blogs about and writes awesome crime fiction.

Laura Lawrence – Miss Laura, like Miss Breck, is one of my oldest interweb buddies and was kind enough to give up a post on her blog to pimp the fund drive.

Finally, and most importantly, ma chère mère, Lois, sœurs, Shyra, Patti, and Beth, et beau-frères, Gus, Tony, and Mark. Thanks for not disowning me and stuff.

Why did I do it? It ain’t rocket science. If we can make the world a better place for everyone to live, then the world will be a better place for everyone to live.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled diablerie.

Fundraiser for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders

I’m raising money for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders until the 21st of this month…that being my birthday. If you can spare a few dollars, quid, euro…anything you like, really, I’d appreciate it, and you’d be my favo(u)rite.

Nota bene, you’ll being giving directly to my PayPal account, so if you do contribute you’re putting your trust in me, Evil Ray. I will donate any funds collected as early as possible on the Monday after the drive ends.

It’s for my birthday! If you love me, you’ll give!

Don’t worry. I’m only taking a short break from being evil.

In which I confess to a vile deed

Ebook update. The Second Deluge by Garrett P. Serviss – This book, published in 1912, shares a basic plot with the film 2012 (cue theramin coinkydink music); astronomical phenomenon cause global catastrophe, boats are built to save humanity, and the Eiffel Tower is destroyed dramatically. Sadly, that hot chick from Star Trek doesn’t make an appearance in the book, making the movie the superior work.

Yes, I did see 2012, and I’m really sorry I didn’t wait until it was on basic cable.

"And then good-by to the human race…unless…unless…I, Cosmo Versál, inspired by science, can save a remnant to repeople the planet after the catastrophe."
