I was amazed to hear that the last widow of a Union Army veteran died just last Friday (17 JAN 03) at the age of 93. She been receiving her husband’s pension (all of $70 a month) since he died in 1937. And , yes, he was considerably older than she, about 63 years older. This passes Tony Randall’s record by 13 years. She was 18 when they married and had been dating (she called it “sparking”) for three years before that.
As amazing is that the last Confederate widow is still alive. Upon her elderly husband’s death she married (her third marriage) a grandson of his from his first marriage. She’d had a son from her marrage to the veteran who would be his step-father’s uncle.
As far as I know none of them were cousins.
