The Color of Money

The American Dialect Society has voted on the word of the year for 2007. The winner is "subprime".

subprime, an adjective used to describe a risky or less than ideal loan, mortgage, or investment.

The Management likes this word. Its euphemistic quotient is high giving it a lot of potential use. While “This sucks” has a savage charm, “This is decidedly subprime” enjoys a cachet that gives it a wider serviceability.

The word voted most useful and most likely to succeed is "green-".

green- prefix/compounding form. Designates environmental concern, as in greenwashing.

The Management is reasonably down with sustainability but prizes utility above all so we prefer “viridian“. We appreciate the fact that “green” dovetails nicely with the word of the year.

Army, Asparagus, Bright, British racing, Camouflage, Celadon, Chartreuse, Chartreuse yellow, Emerald, Fern, Forest, Gray-asparagus, Harlequin, Hunter, Jade, Jungle, Kelly, Key lime, Lime, Lime pulp, Moss, Myrtle, Office, Olive, Olive drab, Pear, Persian, Pigment, Pine, Sea, Shamrock, Spring, Spring bud, Tea.
